In early 2024, I presented my solo show “136 Fantastic Beasts” at Space 687211 in Beijing (Jan 10 – Feb 4, 2024). The title came from the 136 different creatures that appear across the paintings — each carrying its own story of resilience, memory, and imagination.

Alongside the paintings, I created two short videos that played on wide screens in the gallery. To my delight, visitors loved them — many told me the films gave them a more intimate way into the works, and some even stayed to watch them more than once.
That response stayed with me, so I’ve decided to share both films here as well. If you couldn’t make it to the exhibition, I hope these videos give you a glimpse of the stories, memories, and ideas behind 136 Fantastic Beasts.
For Video 1 (My Journey to Artist)
This first film is a personal journey — from my childhood in Malaysia to my life in Beijing — showing how these experiences shaped the way I see and make art.
For Video 2 (Inside My Art Series)
This second film turns the focus to my paintings, guiding you through the series that bring urban wildlife into the frame as companions in our shared world.
Thanks for watching — I loved sharing these on the big screen during my solo show, and I’m happy to bring them here too.
I’m now working on Video 3, which will be about my latest series inspired by the Malay Archipelago. This one will be in English, and I may also remake the first two films in English so more people can enjoy them.
Stay tuned — the journey continues, and I can’t wait to share what comes next!
